Midland County Utility District Calls Bond Election to Establish Water Infrastructure

Midland County, Texas – The Board of Directors of the Midland County Utility District (MCUD) has called a bond election for Saturday, May 3, 2025, to allow voters to consider Proposition A, a measure authorizing the issuance of bonds to fund water system infrastructure and related improvements across the district’s growing 54,800-acre service area.

MCUD was established by the Texas Legislature in 2011 as a water control and improvement district. The District currently has no existing facilities and is preparing to build the infrastructure necessary to provide safe, reliable water service and fire protection to the existing and future residents and businesses within this developing area of Midland County.

If approved by voters, Proposition A would authorize the issuance of up to $645,785,000 in bonds to fund:
-
A reverse osmosis (RO) treatment plant to ensure safe drinking water
-
Construction of new water treatment and delivery systems
-
Over 100 miles of water transmission and distribution lines
-
Ground and elevated water storage tanks
-
Infrastructure to support fire protection services
-
Land acquisition and planning for future expansion
The bonds would be issued incrementally over a 10-year period and repaid over 40 years through property taxes levied by MCUD.
